Why should I have a website for my business?
One point five billion people around the world access the internet almost daily and the number is growing. Over eighty percent of us spend more time online than we do watching television. The internet has become a standard medium for research, networking, communicating and commerce around the world. A website is a terrific opportunity for any business; it will work for you when your brick and mortar shop is closed for the day or weekend. People can view your website and learn about your business, your products, find out your business hours, where you're located and get your contact information. If you are in business, a website is truly a wealth of opportunity. And if your competitor is on the internet, you should be too!
How long does it take to build a website?
That depends on a number of things: how large the site will be, whether it's an e-commerce site or a brochure-type site and how prepared you are with the content. If you have a time frame, we can discuss the feasibility and work together towards that goal.
How much does it cost to have a website created?
Again, that depends. Do you want a simple brochure-type site that tells your clients about your business, your location, hours, team, etc? That could run as low as $500 - depending on the amount and type of content. Do you want to sell items? Do you want to update the site yourself which may require a Content Managment System? These could be anywhere from $1500 up to $5000 depending on how many items you're selling and how large your site will be. Once we've had an opportunity to discuss your ideas and needs for your website, we will quote you a price so that you'll know before we start your project how much the cost of your site will be.
What is expected of me in the process - from beginning to end?
We'd like to meet you, if possible, and discuss all your ideas. We'll go over the amount of content you are thinking of including which can determine the number of pages. You'll decide whether or not you want to include special applications such as a photo gallery, a shopping cart, a content management system, etc. Once we have all that figured out, we will create a minimum of 3 designs that you can choose from to determine the look and layout of your site. From there, we'll begin coding the site and you will provide the content, graphics and images to add to the sites pages. To help you get started, we recommend that you download our Website Planning Guide (PDF).
What does 'web standards compliant code' mean?
Web standards offer a set of rules that every Web developer should follow, understand, and become familiar with: when one developer designs a site to these standards, another will be able to pick up where the former left off. Most web standards are generally designed with forward- and backward-compatibility in mind — so that data using old versions of the standards will continue to work in new browsers, and data using new versions of the standards will gracefully degrade to produce an acceptable result in older browsers. Because a website may go through more than one designer during its lifetime, it is important that those people are able to comprehend the code and to edit it easily.
What exactly is SEO?
Search engine optimization is the method of producing web pages to perform most advantageously in the rankings established by search engines such as Yahoo! and Google. These rankings are brought about as a result of the monitoring and recording of details of millions of websites each time they are browsed by these search engines. Search engines look for keywords that might be entered by a user looking for a particular business. It's essential that these keywords are included in your content.
How will you market my website?
In developing your website, we design and code it for search engine optimization (SEO). After your website is published, we submit it to the top search engines and to internet business directories (free listings), at no additional cost to you. We maintain a list of recommendations that will enable you to make the most of your internet presence and can also help you to integrate the debut and successive updates of your site into any social media accounts that you may have, such as Facebook, Twitter, and more. If you do not have any social media strategies in place, and would like assistance with this, we are happy to work this into your proposal for additional fees.
